If you’ve been to one in the past, you already know what an incredible event it is. If you haven’t been, let me just say it could be one of the most inspiring weekends of the year. The Festival takes place in Carbondale, Colorado

The organizers spend hours upon hours agonizing over their selections, and the finished product has consistently been a showcase of the most incredible films I’ve ever seen. Far from the typical high action, low story stuff that seems to have defined the medium, these are films that will make you laugh and cry, make you ponder your life, your place in the world, and how you can use your talents to make it a better place. Every year I’ve been blown away, and this year’s lineup looks stellar.

And of course you get to hang out with an incredible crew of people, from all over the world. This year’s special guests include alpinists Jimmy Chin, Renan Oztyurk and Hayden Kennedy, polar explorers Erik Boomer and Jon Turk, and original Z-Boy and skating legend Tony Alva. Add to that a whole slew of filmmakers and you’ve got one of the most incredible gatherings in the outdoor industry. Throw in a bunch of social events before and after the event, along with endless local recreation opportunities, and you’ve got a weekend to remember!
Hope to see you all there!

2012 5Point Film Festival from 5Point Film Festival on Vimeo.
For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit the official website.

Extreme Mountain Biking - Downhill Freeride and Crashes (MTB)

Extreme Mountain Biking - Downhill Freeride and Crashes (MTB):
Subscribe to Internet Discoveries Channel ... It took awhile to get used to but in the end I used it quite a bit. It has the advantages of adding friction to a lower and most important does NOT TWIST THE ROPE! I yelled that out for the world to hear. It really is not that hard to learn and with a little practice you’ll be whipping it up like a pro. It is also the hitch that the “know it all” at the crag has never heard or seen. Useful with heavy loads.

Video Rating: 4 / 5

Climbing the Rainbow Wall

Climbing the Rainbow Wall:

Outdoor Research has put together a great video of two folks climbing on the Rainbow Wall (5.11) in Red Rocks near Las Vegas, Nevada. 4:45 min.

Enjoy, and here’s to getting out in the warm weather to have an adventure!

Climbing Rainbow Wall, Red Rocks — The Classics from Outdoor Research on Vimeo.

2011 Green River Narrows Extreme Kayak Race

2011 Green River Narrows Extreme Kayak Race:

Pilot Collective Media presents the highlights of the 2011 Green River Race. He started climbing as a child, with a free solo fall from a stone wall as one of his earliest memories. Since that time, he has speed soloed Half Dome and El Capitan, Cerro Torre, and Fitzroy. He was the first to make a one-day free ascent of El Cap and Half Dome, and a one-day speed linkup of both of those big walls and Mount Watkins, Yosemites third Grade VI wall. He has also established testpiece crack routes in the Utah desert and highball boulder problems in Yosemite. Dean has walked the longest highlines, often without a safety leash, though he has dedicated over a decade of engineering and testing to create the safest highline systems currently used. Most recently, he has combined BASE jumping skill with highlining and free soloing, using a specially engineered ultralight BASE rig as his backup system. Dean currently bases out of Yosemite, where he can usually be found on a large piece of granite. The coldest season overstayed its welcome well into May. By the time the ground had dried enough to return to work, the access road into the forest suddenly sprouted a gate with a lock. With a little ingenuity, the boys gained access and got back after it. After eight months of shaping, honing, and waiting, it is about to go down.

This was a "LAM Monthly Featured Video".

MOUNTAINEERING: Lowering a Partner

MOUNTAINEERING: Lowering a Partner:

MOUNTAINEERING: Lowering a Partner

One method of lowering a partner on a rope.

Origins – Joshua Tree

Origins – Joshua Tree:
Welcome to our new series “Origins” — a fun video concept developed with the crew at Evolv Shoes, and also sponsored by Mountain Gear. “Origins” focuses on climbing’s rich history, following top athletes of today as they team up with their heroes from the past, and attempt to climb the iconic (and iconoclastic) routes of earlier generations. The First “Origins” episode features two climbing stars: Kurt Smith, who put up some badass routes in Joshua Tree in 1988, and Chris Lindner, who was sending 5.12 routes when he was 5 years old. In this “Origins” episode, Chris sets out to climb Kurts slab test-piece on The Dunce Cap, UNREPEATED for 22 years — right in the heart of J-Tree climbing. Directed by Rob Frost, and filmed by Frost with Russell Holcomb, this is a short film about Chris journey to do the second ascent of this forgotten Joshua Tree classic. Stay tuned for more “Origins” episodes online and on the 2010 REEL ROCK Film Tour.

Video Rating: 4 / 5

We call it "Bleau" - 2 days in the forest with Ethan Pringle

We call it "Bleau" - 2 days in the forest with Ethan Pringle:

Description: Beautifully produced bouldering video from Fontainebleau France (in english).

Two crisps day in the forest with Ethan Pringle, Trine, Ting & Abond from yangshuo.

This video features :
- Big Jim, 6C flash (Petit Bois)
- La Baleine, 7A (Petit Bois)
- Double entorse, 7B+ (Franchard Cuisinière)
- Entorse, 7A (Franchard Cuisinière)
- Big Dragon, 8A (Petit Bois)
- Tigre & Dragon, 8A (Rocher Gréaut)

Bonus :
- A try in Karma
- Tigre & Dragon uncut

The Season 2.19…Mountain of Potential

The Season 2.19…Mountain of Potential:

Rising 14,000 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier is where many aspiring mountaineers go to test their skills. Crevasses, hanging glaciers, weather that’s not always predictable. At 19, Greg had the climbing bug and set his sights on Rainier. But summiting is not a gimme by any means. When he first saw Rainier, Greg “saw an amazing mountain that scared the crap out of me. There was a lot of fear but no understanding.” After years spent honing skills in the mountains, Greg views Rainier as a mountain of potential.
